What are S.P.A.R.K.℠ & S.T.E.A.M. Kits?
These interactive, take-home kits are a great way to foster creativity and cognitive development through a wide variety of unique activities.
Each kit focuses on a theme and contains:
- an explorative, hands-on item
- non-fiction books
- Many kits also contain a a discovery sheet for recording what you learned, observed, and designed

S.P.A.R.K.℠ Kits encourage: Skills, Playing, Achievement, Reading, and Knowledge
S.T.E.A.M. Kits teach: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math
Kits can be checked out for up to 3 weeks! Kits can be placed on hold and can be picked up at either of the desks. Please keep in mind, kits must be returned to a desk inside the library. You can check out one S.T.E.A.M. kit and one S.P.A.R.K.℠ kit per family.
Coding
Get an introduction into computer coding with this Let’s Go Code set. Children will get practice designing code by building a maze with the foam maze mats and then coding the path with the coding cards.

With this kit you can learn how bridges stand up, and then design your own! Test your knowledge and creativity with the structures building and bridges activity included.
Construction: Building
Learn about engineering with the items in this kit! You can play with the magnetic building tiles while following along with a design from the Picasso Tiles Idea Book!
Counting Money
Learn to count money with this calculator cash register! Make counting fun with the Learning Resources money bags coin value game.
Dinosaur Kit
Explore every dinosaur you can think of! With this kit you will learn all about the dinosaurs and where they lived. You can also test your knowledge with the dinosaur guessing game included!
Discovery Backpack
This kit is courtesy of the Library of Virginia, I love Virginia State Parks, and Science Museum of Virginia. Inside you will find a parking pass for all Virginia State Parks! You can have fun exploring with the tools included.
